Around the islands

A moody sky glowers over Morecambe Bay, early one morning              in October 2012

The remains of a wooden jetty in the foreground. Constructed in the 1870s, it was used for the loading of sand and gravel, then latterly by Walney Saltworks

 

       South Walney Nature Reserve is home to the most southerly Eider                         duck colony in Britain

A walk around the Cavendish Dock area of Barrow

The remains of Barrow's industrial history can be seen all around the dock area

Demolition in progress, clearing the former industrial area. Plans were in place to build a new waterfront business park and marina development. Work has currently ceased due to financial problems brought about by government cutbacks.
