Red Man's Way

Red Man's Way is a footpath which has been created on a former slag bank site. The area was previously the location of the Iron and Steelworks, which in the 1870s was the biggest Bessemer steel production plant in the world and employed over five thousand men. The processes involved in the industry often left the men covered in red dust, hence the name given to the footpath.
